Falmouth District Centenary Event
Saturday 27th October 2007
Maritime Museum Falmouth 10.00am to 4.00pm
Throughout 2007 the World Scout Movement is celebrating the Centenary of Scouting. For 100 years Scouting has provided fun and activities to many young people, locally, nationally and internationally.
On Saturday 27th October 07, Cornwall Scouts celebrated in style at The National Maritime Museum Cornwall and with much support from The St. Mawes Ferry Company and Harvey’s Wharf Brasserie.
Over 700 people contributed to a day of fun and games. “You could design your own Surf Board, make a Compass, take a trip on a Ferry and bounce about on a Bungee Run. Plus watch a live theatre performance and learn much about the History of Falmouth and its Maritime Influence.
I am delighted with the Centenary Celebrations and pay particular thanks to the National Maritime Museum, Cornwall Ferries and Harvey’s Wharf who supported our event from start to finish. The young people enjoyed a day of fun, laughter, education and great activities, all in all the day was a great success!” Colin Wellington, District Commissioner, Falmouth and District Scout Association.
"Nearly 500 young people blitzed the Museum! No one was deterred by the rain and everybody had a fantastic time!" Neil Slade, County Scout Network Commissioner, Cornwall Scouts Association.

FALMOUTHS NMMC PLAYS HOST TO CORNWALL SCOUTS IN CENTENARY CELEBRATIONS!
Throughout 2007 the World Scout Movement is celebrating the Centenary of Scouting. For 100 years Scouting has provided fun and activities to many young people, locally, nationally and internationally.
Right through 2007, Cornwall has hosted many special events for members and friends of the movement, both old and new. On the 27th October 07, The District of Falmouth will host a day of fun, education and laughter at and in partnership with The National Maritime Museum Cornwall and with much support from The St. Mawes Ferry Company.
“The Centenary Year has provided terrific opportunities for all members of all ages to enjoy adventurous activities, new challenges and have much fun and laughter throughout 2007 and well in to 2008”. Colin Wellington, District Commissioner, Falmouth and District Scout Association.
The aim of the Association is to promote the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potential, as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities.
Stuart Slade, Education Manager for the Maritime Museum says: “We have hosted a number of education events over recent months but this Celebration with over 500 young people is our biggest yet. We’re all praying for fine weather as the Scouts will also be using the Events Square as part of the day’s activities - mind you Scouts aren’t exactly the type to worry about a bit of inclement weather!”
